Central to this journey emerge Guiding Principles—beacons that illuminate our path and shape our decisions, whether we know them concretely or not. Yet, as the terrain of business evolves, so too must our guiding lights. At major intersection of life establishing a vital practice of revisiting ones guiding principles becomes not just a ritual of reflection, but as a strategic exercise in introspection and holistic evaluation.

Writing out Guiding Principles is a profound (and often difficult) exercise in introspection.     Original Thought: The evolving dynamics of the people we work with and how best to leverage individual strengths in the ever-changing context of our projects. Also, gatekeeping knowledge can be one of the ways to quick degrade a trust of a group and the quality of its outputs.

    New considerations: This principal is important for larger organizations that need to balance having "to many cooks in the kitchen" and not have the right decision makers available to keep forward momentum. How does this apply to start-up/smaller business when people are wearing multiple hats?

  3. Honor the Business Strategy, Respect the Crafts:

    Original Thought: A balance between collective strategic goals and the expertise of individuals can help us distinguish between the Letter of the Law and the Spirit of the Law when it comes to executive directions and practical application.     New considerations: How do we correctly identify what is actually a "wall" and what is a "window"?

    New considerations: Is there a way to apply a sliding scale here to designate time when it is appropriate to over index to one or the other?

    Original Thought: This principle epitomizes the forward-looking aspect of our guiding principles, urging us to be responsive to immediate needs while laying the groundwork for future success.

    New considerations: A new Principal is emerging that can be written "Think Big, act small", both these are Agile type principals. How we we reconcile these two and decide what would be useful moving forward?
